Self Guided: Queer Self Care Workshop

Hi y’all! Whilst we had a scheduled workshop titled “Queer Self Care”, hosted by Kerr Mesner of Heart Story Consulting, we decided this was better offered and accessible in a self guided format. We hope these exercises and tools are supportive for queer folks, especially those of us involved in activism and feeling the experiences of burnout. Below is the website for Kerr Mesner, a wonderful activist, consultant, facilitator and spiritual director at Heart Story Consulting whom created this self guided workshop and provided these prompts

As we think about self care in relation to our activism, journaling can be a helpful tool. Taking a little “mini-retreat” to nourish ourselves with writing, drawing, or reflection, can be a way to care for ourselves as LGBTQIA+ activists.

With that in mind, here are some journaling prompts for you to explore… we invite you to play with this in writing, drawing, movement, reflecting, or discussing with someone you trust. Enjoy!

  •  How are you doing in these current times?
  • In this moment, what needs attention in your heart, mind, body, and spirit?
  • Think of a time when you felt grounded, strong, centered. As you remember that moment, what do you notice? Is there something from that memory, (for example, a word, a gesture, a feeling…) that you can carry into this present moment?
  • Try some (or all!) of these sentence completions as freewrite prompts… just start writing or typing or drawing and keep going til you run out of words or images…

o   I honor…

o   I believe…

o   I trust…

o   Together we…

o   Hope is…

  • And finally, are there particular supports that you need right now? If so, what are some resources or ways you might access those resources?
