Zero. Disgracefully, that’s the number of U.S. states that require sex education curriculums be comprehensively inclusive to LGBTQIA+ folks. Most sex education programs, instead, assume that those receiving the information are both heterosexual and cisgender. If there’s anything less cute than clogs, it’s that degree of homophobia and transphobia. That’s why we worked with GLSEN, Advocates for Youth, and two queer sex educators to create a safer sex guide that understands the true complexity and diversity across gender identities, sexual orientation, attractions, and experiences.

We need to be mindful of our language to ensure that we’re reaching young people of all genders. Oftentimes, birth control is framed as only being for people who have the capacity get pregnant, and that leaves out so many students who could use the information for their health and safety.

Sex, Etc. is on a mission to improve teen sexual health across the country! Last year, 1.6 million people visited Sexetc.org to get honest and accurate sexual health information. We’ve helped teens with answers to their question about sex, relationships, pregnancy, STIs, birth control, sexual orientation, gender identity and more!
iwannaknow.org offers information on sexual health for teens and young adults. This is where you will find the facts, the support, and the resources to answer your questions about sexual health, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), healthy relationships, and more.
